Taking its inspiration from an Italian village, the J. Paul Getty Museum, known as “The Getty”, was designed in the early 1970s. It comprises of two separate buildings: the Getty Center, in the chic neighbourhood of Brentwood, and the Getty Villa, in Pacific Palisades. The former, dreamed up by the extravagant philanthropist, houses an impressive collection of works by some of the world’s most famous artists: Titian, Rembrandt and Rubens, but also Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Manet. At the latter, you can experience ancient Rome and Greece, with over 44,000 exhibits from the Stone Age to the fall of the Roman Empire and some priceless sculptures of Athena, Heracles and Zeus.
