An elegant 18th-century monument, Rohan Palace (“Palais Rohan”) sits majestically on the banks of the Ill, particularly during night-time when its illuminated façade is reflected on the river. Formerly the residence of the prince-bishops of the ancient noble family of Rohan, this masterpiece of baroque architecture houses three exceptional museums. Visit the Museum of Decorative Arts and its collection of Strasbourg porcelain and faience, alongside the sumptuous reconstituted rooms of the bishop’s apartment. On the first floor, the Museum of Fine Arts curates an excellent collection of paintings by European masters including Botticelli, Delacroix, Goya, Rubens, and Véronèse. Finally, descend in the Archaeological Museum, and discover the treasures of Argentoratum, the ancient name of Strasbourg.
