Art & Design Montreal, Canada
The city’s museum of archaeology is quite naturally based on the site of the foundations of the city of Montreal, Pointe-à-Callière, a national historic and archaeological site. The building, known as the Eperon, has won many architectural awards and its tower looks out over the Old Port. It is home to some of the discoveries found on this site, the result of ten years of excavations, including the archaeological crypt along with objects dating back to the city’s original indigenous inhabitants right up to the 20th century. The museum is due to undergo major renovation work in 2017 to celebrate Montreal’s 375th anniversary and is set to become an international institution.
